Beyond Concepts To Human Depictions Of Emotion
author: Charlie Lang
The most important aspect of Mark Davenport's brand new album Full Circle may not be that there is a series of pieces that fit together, but instead that each part is left human, raw,and poignant, as beautiful shared moments from all our lives- just like we remember them. This can be seen and felt in Prologue where recordings of Davenport's people from his childhood turn into soulful jazz saxophone licks and heartbreaking lyrics that weave the past and present together.Waterfall piano parts evoke more than the glue throughout the album,,, but speak each themselves of a different quality each time they appear or reappear. Everything is functional- it all runs together the colors Davenport wishes to render. But the real poetry is the feeling that breaks the heart, yet moves on to the other end of a circle that engraves feelings rather than strategically placing them.

Skillfully using the elements of music: melody, harmony, and rhythm, Mark communicates the universal images of Dreams, Love, Hope and Healing. Mark Davenport's piano and voice transports you to another place. The songs span several genres with impeccable vocals, great instrumentation and beautiful lyrics. This is Mark's first album, after a lifetime of playing music and coming from a musical family. It is long overdue and beautifully done. The CD is better than the download because it comes with a booklet full of pics and history relating to Mark and people he grew up with. Enjoy it any way you can; it is all good, very melodic with interesting lyrics and definitely worth owning. I love it! His voice is exceptional and so are the arrangements and choice of songs.

Mark Davenport's CD is awesome. It is the culmination of his contemporary musical works. It explores life's experiences and challenges in a series of metaphors and lyrical expression that speak to both universal and his own personal journey on the road of life. He uses this occasion to speak to world concerns regarding the Darfur atrocities as well as breast cancer, which the CD is dedicated to. "Love Will Find a Way" is a knock out tribute to the Beatles.
