notes

Four Trips Ahead was formed out of the desire to combine a passionate live show, thoughtful lyrics as well as unique, melodic musical arrangements. The origins of the band date back to 1996, when guitarist Brian Eisenpresser and bassist Dan Cassidy formed the rock band, Need. The two met earlier in middle school and quickly achieved notoriety playing in various bands on Long Island, developing their musical abilities, songwriting talents and dynamic stage performance. Drummer Dan Walsh and a singer rounded out the group's musical vision.

Need began playing shows, gaining critical acclaim and a solid following. Aside from producing three CDs, they played virtually every major NYC club and individual members have accompanied noted artists at prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall. "At the time, there weren't many rock bands that left a lasting impression on me," Brian remembers. "Except one." That other band was Smile Orange. Fronted by powerhouse lead singer Peter Wilson, Smile Orange had gained a strong foothold on the East Coast, playing in popular clubs, working with noted producers, including Steve Thompson (Korn, Saliva, Blues Traveler, Guns n' Roses, The Rolling Stones) and gaining an enthusiastic following and industry recognition. Smile Orange released three successful independent EPs, eventually selling thousands of copies through constant touring and college radio airplay. With mutual admiration, the two bands often supported one another at gigs. A friendship later developed between Brian and Peter, as well as a shared dissatisfaction with much of the rock scene.

Seeking a new direction, in early 2001, Brian decided to form a side project with Dan Cassidy and Dan Walsh. Brian recalls, "We were getting a lot of recognition for our ability to incorporate various styles of music, but we wanted a more focused sound." By this time, Peter's group had disbanded and he was writing solo material. A phone call and a few rehearsals later, Four Trips Ahead was born. The chemistry was immediate and the side project became a full commitment, perfecting a recipe for musical fulfillment and success.

For the past two years, Four Trips Ahead has been bringing their high-energy show to audiences in New York City and Long Island. The band has become an instant club favorite, playing to packed houses at CBGBs, the Cutting Room, Crash Mansion, Luna Lounge, Suite 16, Cafe 111, Don Hill's and the Laurie Beechman Theater.

After promoting their last release, "The 505 Sessions", for the past year, Four Trips Ahead went back into the studio and emerged with the recently completed "39th Street Lullabies". The title of the five song EP is a clever nod to the band's creative process and love of their surroundings, describing when and where the songs were written, rehearsed, tracked and completed. Produced and mixed by Nick Cipriano (Dream Theater, Erasure), "39th Street Lullabies" is a passionate and infectious collection of songs: a rare commodity in today's musical climate. The band will begin touring early next year to coincide with radio promotion and the official CD release in February 2005.
