Purple Button Media, LLC dba The Story Home was created in 2007 by Northern California educators and performing artists, Sharon and Alan Scofield, in order to provide a way to publish and distribute their original and adapted classic children’s stories, when it had grown beyond the friends and family who requested new content on a regular basis. Now their stories have exceeded one million downloads and they have loyal follower’s world wide. Known for their production quality, and the voice of their storyteller Alan Scofield, listeners have commented on how the stories have touched their lives for the better.
“My 3 year old son LOVES the little bunny stories! The rhyming is done so well and they are told with such great expression. He listens to them at bedtime. I would love to see more of Little Bunny!”
The “enchanted stories are rich with wonder and magic that tap deeply into a child’s imagination, opening and stretching it to a place far beyond the stars”.
"My kids love your stories! They have to listen to you every night. You have become part of the family! Thanks so much for all the magic!”
We just listened to “The Little Bunny Who Thought for Himself” on the way to day care this morning. My 3 1/2 year old and I loved the story! We had to pause the recording often so she could talk about the story and ask questions. “The bunny went in time out because he did not listen, right?” My favorite line, as the mom, was that sometimes it is lonely to do the right thing, but you still need to do the right thing. (I’m paraphrasing, it was much more elegantly written.) Anyway, this story has immediately become a family favorite and I know we will listen to it over and over again. I’ve already had a request by my daughter to listen to it again on the way home.”
“Alan Scofield’s stories will be loved for years to come. He is a truly gifted and rare storyteller who delights the hearts of children.”
The company’s mission is to delight and inspire children and their families throughout the world, offering an authentic place for curiosity, imagination, and self discovery. They believe that the imagination of a child is a priceless resource and must be given time, encouragement, and education.
Awarded the American Library Association’s “Outstanding Websites for Children” official seal, The Story Home is now a learning resource for schools and libraries around the world.
About the Storyteller, Alan M. Scofield
Arts educator, storyteller, nationally known master teacher and founding director of Young Imaginations Arts Education Agency.
Alan has been called the “Danny Kaye of the San Francisco North Bay” because of his magical connection with children through music, stories and dance. As an educator for twenty five years he has touched the lives of a generation of public school children and is now passing down his techniques of teaching to today’s arts educators and classroom teachers. Twenty four years ago, he co-founded Young Imaginations’, Northern California’s acclaimed arts-education agency and joined the College of Marin’s Dance faculty. In 1994, Alan Scofield was invited to St. Marks School, to be a storyteller, as part of their “Roots and Wings” program, an ongoing series in which character education is promoted through presentations by community leaders. Each year he has created and presented a story which uniquely portrays the essence of timeless values for young people. As his storytelling legacy grew, he employed stories from history and life in his teaching residencies, such as Young Imaginations.
Scofield states: “I have seen the power of a story transform a room a thousand times. The true teacher is a storyteller, and a good story teaches.”
Special Thanks to Sharon Rogan Scofield for her impeccable sense of sound editing to allow the stories to be faultlessly read.
Special Thanks to Joelle Reeder at Moxie Design Studios, the best web designer out there, for her beautiful designs.
