It started from nothing.
Saxophonics started from my relatives persistently insisting that I make a project composed of my saxophone and my instrumentals. No lyrics. No singing. Just straight instrumentals. It started with the song 'For Cindy,' which was originally intended just to be a single track. One track turned into two, and soon I had recorded a batch of 20 songs that truly defined my growth in 2012 as a producer, an artist, an engineer, and a composer.
To my surprise, my saxophone became my voice in this album. It adds a layer that truly defines the mood of each of these songs. I really pushed myself to approach the sound of my sax differently, seeing as my application is some what 'unorthodox.' The unintended effect of adding my saxophone became my strongest suit for this project: my saxophone adds a layer to every song in this album that caused this album to defy any single genre. For instance, on the first track, the saxophone takes a down south, 808, sub-shaking track and turns it into a jazzy, soulful, electro jam that is light years away from simply being a "dirty south beat."
In following my family's advice, and approaching this album with a studious mentality, I am starting to discover my sound as an artist, and as a producer. I look forward to what 2013 has in store. Thank you for your time and I hope you enjoy Saxophonics!
