ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This first album, "Lifelines", is the culmination of the last 10 years, and exists purely from the love and support of said family, friends and fans. Local Seattle graphic designer, Aaron Rutten, of surrealpixelstudio.com, provided the beautiful artwork; Audio Engineer and good friend Ryan Rood, recorded, mixed and mastered the songs; Jessie Abbott, Nick Sandy, Nelson Barnard, and Bryan Fabert provided their sweet voices and musical talents, and every single person who has found the time to come to one of my shows and cheer me on is the inspiration for me to take this album and its awesomeness, and do it all over again, but even better!

I love you all and hope to keep you singing and smiling for another quarter-life and beyond! <3

MoE bewitches us with her intelligent, thoughtful lyrics, reminiscent of Ingrid Michaelson accompanied by a soupcon of jazzy blues evocative of Kate Melua, while managing to forge a style definitively her. You’ll likely be smiling and clapping or snapping and crooning along to her infectious joie de vivre. She has an uncanny ability to give an effervescent feeling to otherwise weighty subjects. Oftentimes, one doesn’t realize what an enormous impact her song has had until long after the last note. She draws emotions like sucking poison from a wound...when you weren’t even aware that you were injured.

She has an incredible talent for harmonizing, so that she is able to make you believe you are listening to a room full of people when in fact all that talent is bottled up in one person (though sometimes two people, when accompanied by her twin sister, Jessie). The Djinn genius unleashed in songs such as "Chiaroscuro" or "Summer Rain" cannot be contained once let free. Drawing from such divers sources as Khalil Gibran’s, The Prophet, sea chanteys and Greek mythology, MoE has given us a lot to contemplate in works such as "Perdition" and "The Krakan's Song". She follows that heady fare with charming songs such as the prose-like "For the Love", imparting encouragement with the lyrics “for the love will carry us through, through the painful times that we knew. When the seconds in life don’t feel like enough, what we do, it is all for the love”.

Of course I would be remiss if I neglected to mention her humorous offerings. Just the first few vampy bars of "Trouble" and we know we’re in for some. "Tea Break"? How could that song not be epic? MoE is a perfect listen for those rainy nights huddled in a blanket with some tea, those twilit hours keening for that nameless something and for days of sunshine with the top rolled down. Who could ask for more?

MoE is music. Beautiful music.
This album is exactly what every music lover needs in their music collection. This is a collection of feel-good music that was written, arranged, and performed by one of the Pacific Northwest's greatest local artists. You will find yourself listening to every track on this record again and again. If you follow MoE off of the album to her website, you'll actually find a treasure trove of fantastic songs not available anywhere else. It seems that every week more and more songs show up online. Her catalog grows and spreads much like the beauty and wonder of baby sea turtles, with every track being just as spectacular as the next. The only difference is that while her music will be etched into history forever, 90% of baby sea turtles die before ever reaching the ocean. Those poor baby sea turtles... Now I'm sad... I should listen to this album again. It guarantees to put a smile on your face from the very first track.

Come for the Temptation of the Devil, stay for The Kraken and fall in love under The Summer Rain. The artist's musical journey is so well represented in this initial album of MoE's. The versatility and downright fun vibe from the singer, are sure to make this a perennial favorite. To be able to own such art and access it at one's leisure is priceless, but thankfully the world is full of miracles and you can own such a treasure for the price of a coffee run. I eagerly await the sophomore album of this talented lady.

MoE. Heck yes.
I was turned onto MoE through some friends in the Pac NW and this record quickly became one of my favorites of the year. This is an interesting record from start to finish without seeming scattered, which is hard to say about a lot of releases these days. Songs like Trouble and Temptation of the Devil are frenetic and gypsy-like, while Summer Rain is so beautifully deconstructed to simple plucked notes over pensive, yet hopeful lyrics. For The Love will remind you of an old sea shanty, while the strums of a ukelele on songs like Sooner Than Soon will transport you to the islands. My favorite tracks seem to be a hybrid of all these styles and will capture you with beautiful, upbeat melodies and intelligent lyrics. Her choice of talented friends who know and share her vision bring it all together in something that sounds like anything but a rookie release. All this has kept this disc in rotation since I got it, and I don't expect this or any of her upcoming work to be gathering any dust.

A fantastic listen, lyrically and vocally and instrumentally.
I will be honest, the first round through, I liked this album, and then I found myself wanting to hear "Temptation of the Devil", "Chairscuro", and "For the Love" again. Second round through I fell in love with this album. Smitten actually, it's comfortable, quirky and absolutely charming without ever being childish or silly.

This album is fantastic top to bottom. The lyrical content is clever, never trite, and smacks your right in your soul. It's reminiscent of 20's and 30's jazz, folk and blues, but contemporary in it's themes and delivery. MoE cleverly takes you through emotions that are exceptionally, human.

The front half is fantastic, the second half is really good. I recommend this as a whole. The artwork for the album itself is gorgeous. Usually, when you open up an album, you think 'meh' it's just holding what I really want, but the album itself is beautiful. The packaging. I'm not one that sits there and oohs and ahhs over how well something is wrapped up, but this is gorgeous.

Solid album.
