Yours Truly is a progressive rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Most frequently likened to an even blend between Incubus, Radiohead, and the Foo Fighters, and acclaimed for the “bigger-than-three” sound that they produce, the trio combines pop-sensibility, musical precision, and raw energy to create music that is both catchy to the ear and stimulating to the mind.
In April of 2010, Yours Truly released its debut EP, “the Colorage,” which has fooled many listeners into over-estimating the band’s age. After reviewing the members’ resumes, how- ever, it’s easy to see how such a mistake could be made. Between lead singer/guitarist Justin Portis’ freelance writing for Universal Records, bassist/producer DJ Huggy’s esteemed artist clientele (which includes Wiz Khalifa, Charon Don, et al), and drummer Eric Downs’ jazz training at the University of Pittsburgh, the band undoubtedly have the experience to justify the maturity in their sound despite their short time in existence.
“The Colorage” consists of five songs that equip the debut album with the rich sound of a seasoned sophomore release. From beginning to end, Yours Truly navigates the diverse styles of the album with the ease of a knife through warm butter, summoning influences ranging from Jeff Buckley to the Mars Volta and from The Police to Fall Out Boy. Needless to say, offering a bit of something for everybody isn’t an issue.
Yours Truly is the pinnacle balance between accessibility and innovation. Their songs push musical boundaries enough to keep math-rockers counting while remaining smooth enough win over teeny-boppers longing for something more intelligent than the MTV singles they’ve grown tired of. So, no matter who you are, go ahead, put “the Colorage” into your stereo and please...enjoy.
