2 Miles Apart

Vocals: Rachel Ryan, Guitars: Chris Calhoon

Rachel and Chris both left LA with an extreme love for music, but a need for a change of atmosphere. Chris ended up moving to Denver soon after Rachel, and the pair coincidentally, wound up living 2 miles apart, and meeting by chance with the common goal of finding an outlet for their shared musical passion. From the moment they met, there was an unexplainable musical chemistry that can be seen in their live performances and heard in their profound songwriting connection. Their live shows consist of just Rachel's vocals and Chris's guitar, making for a very intimate and natural sounding performance. In July of 2011, after only being together for seven months, they released their first CD "Country Roads & Simple Plans". They wanted their first CD to be as natural and as close to a live performance as possible, so only vocals and guitars were featured on all eleven songs. To promote their CD, they started playing around Denver as much as possible and ended up creating quite a buzz within the Denver acoustic music scene. Since songwriting seems to flow so fluently between them, they wrote and recorded their second CD "Elephant In The Room", which will be released commercially on June 24th 2012, in only five months. This CD will feature eleven songs spanning many genres of the musical spectrum. "Elephant In The Room" will also feature full band instrumentation, all played by Chris, and elaborate vocal harmony arrangements, all arranged by Rachel, giving their expansive sound a more mainstream feel. They both have high hopes for their latest release. In their short time together, Rachel and Chris have accomplished to create a signature style and sound that combines contemporary jazz and soul, with a hint of pop, country, light rock, and a heavy influence of the blues. They have been compared to such artists as The Civil Wars, Tuck & Patti, Melody Gardot, Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks, Bonnie Raitt, Jewel, Eva Cassidy, Miranda Lambert, and Carrie Underwood.
