ACELSIA started as a solo project called "View" in the summer of 2006. Malene wanted to record some of her songs and got Nils and some other friends to help her out in the studio. Happy with the result, Malene decided to take the project further and form a permanent band. Auditions were held in the following months. The first line-up was complete when Marius and Håkon joined the band some time in the winter 2007. At this point the band changed its name to Acelsia – inspired by the flower Celsia, symbolizing immortality. They recorded "Demo 2007" soon after – an straightforward effort in an more alternative rock style. After some time with no permanent second guitarist, the band got its current line-up when Odd Henning joined the band in the fall of 2007.
With the new line-up, Acelsia took a new musical direction. As shown on "Demo 2008", the band found themselves steadily moving towards a more heavy and aggressive sound, focusing on dynamic, feeling and melody. The music became more contrastive and emotional, shifting between extremes, from the soft and sweet to brutal and heavy, yet always with a strong melody at the center.
Extensive gigging has earned the band a reputation for being a rocksolid and engaging live act. In winter 2009, Acelsia was nominated for the music magazine Musikk Praksis' "MP Award".
ACELSIA's recent musical development has seen them transcending the bounderies of several heavy rock and metal genres, taking influence from any kind of music that seems fit. Their latest recording, "Primrose path", presents songs that range from heavy and dramatic to spacy and pensive. The lyrics speak of yearnings, contemplations and complications – intimate and personal explorations of life. This is all woven into compositions that take on everything from pop to different types of metal. Acelsia set out to write music that captures their heart and imagination, not necessarily songs that fit a typical genre or format.
