Since this is an autobiography, I'll try to keep it real. First, my name is Adam Zampino. Since I was almost 13 years old, I've been making pianos and keyboard instruments sing, having spent most of my time getting to know the sounds of musical tones, scales, melodies, harmonies, and chords. Over the years, I've developed the ability to improvise entire compositions, in a similar way that some people can create stories or whistle tunes, only using a piano as my instrument. I also enjoy improvising variations of familiar tunes, similar to how a jazz musician would approach music.
When I was in my mid-20s, I was fortunate enough to cross paths with a notable musician, Mamadou Diop. Not to write his bio here, but he is a great performing artist (I would say he is about the best rhythm guitarist you will ever find), and also a close friend. If you want to learn more about him, just google his name. But, what he did do is find a place for me in his ensemble, simply called MAMADOU.
I would say that I enjoy performing live with MAMADOU, as the musicians in the ensemble are top-notch performers, and there's little more rewarding to me than being able to work with a team of such high caliber. Plus, I've developed the rhythmic side of my musical approach, having worked with this group for almost a decade.
The music that I have composed over the years reflects where I am, or was, during the time of the project. Some of my compositions are influenced by other music, many are inspired by visual imagery, some by the sounds of the instrumentation, and still others I have no idea where they come from. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do crafting them.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my music a little bit. Check out my web site for other tid bits.
