Alcoholic Skunk is a project that was created by Marq VanAlstyne in the early 2000’s in Vancouver, WA. VanAlstyne’s music style could best be described as industrial-hardcore punk. Ministry, Lard, Pleasure Elite, and Pop Will Eat Itself are among some of the greatest influences musically. VanAlstyne’s lyrical style can be described as offensive with a social/political message(however vague) in most songs, while others are offensive and just plain silly.
In 2001 VanAlstyne started releasing several tracks under the Alcoholic Skunk name on mp3.com and was often in the “Top 50” in the industrial section.
In 2002 a full cd named Operation Candyman was released trough mp3.com. At this time VanAlstyne also attempted to turn Alcoholic Skunk into a live band performing clubs around Portland, OR but that never fully materialized.
From 2004 to 2005, VanAlstyne played several open mics in Vancouver, WA and Portland, Or, singing to small sets of Alcoholic Skunk music, burned on cds, calling it “original karaoke”
VanAlstyne took a hiatus from writing and recording due to personal issues from 2006-2011, but started writing again in 2012, and is set to release an EP called "Vote For Nobody In 2012" in early September.
