BIOGRAPHY
Composer, conductor and teacher Alice Parker was born in Boston, MA in 1925. A graduate of Smith College and the Juilliard School, she has led an active life of composing, conducting and teaching focused on melody and on the human voice. Her own compositions include four operas, more than forty-five cantatas, many choral suites and hundreds of anthems and settings of folk songs, hymns and spirituals.
In 1985 she founded Melodious Accord, Inc. and The Musicians of Melodious Accord, a professional chamber chorus. Melodious Accord sponsors educational opportunities, SINGS, and her personal appearances as well as concerts and recordings by The Musicians of Melodious Accord. She has published several books including The Anatomy of Melody, and The Melodious Accord Hymnal as well as over a dozen recordings. She is the recipient of many honors and awards including 6 honorary doctorates.
