Alyssa Reynolds is a young, emerging vocalist and composer. Her unique timbre and writing style possesses tasteful flavors and elements of both jazz and christian/ gospel musical genres. Her pure quality of tone, music and lyrics is guaranteed to take your weary, burdened heart on a soothing journey.
Alyssa has been singing since before she can remember. As a baby, she was noted for singing the tune, in perfect pitch, of the mobile hanging above her crib. At the age of 6, Alyssa sang her first duet, a rendition of “Jesus Loves Me”, with her mother in church. Throughout her years of grade school, Alyssa was actively involved in music. She served her home church for 7 years as a member and leader of the praise team. In both middle school and high school, Alyssa participated in the school choir and band. During several summers, Alyssa would perform in musicals at local community theaters. She also sang as the jazz vocalist with the Sanger High School jazz band. During her last two years of high school and throughout her college career, Alyssa received classical training. During the summer of 2012, Alyssa also received training in vocal jazz at the University of North Texas Vocal Jazz Camp.
In 2009, Alyssa wrote and finished her first song “Home.” Since then, she has written numerous other songs. In 2011, she began the process of making her first EP, Unveiled.
Alyssa’s debut EP, Unveiled, soon to be released, is about darkness being brought forth into light. “As humans, we live in a world full of despair, hatred, tragedy, disease and brokenness. However, as humans, we also have the opportunity to choose hope and freedom. Jesus Christ is that hope. He came into this world and paid the price for the world’s sin, which is death. He died so that we may have life. Through his dying and resurrecting from the grave, darkness was brought forth into light.”
The title song, “Home” is about finding a home in the peace in which Jesus Christ gives. “This song was my first song to write and it came to me in, what I believe to be, a horrible season of heartache. However, as usual, this song was one of the many vessels God used to mold and shape my life, as well as the lives of others. I wrote the lyrics, music and melody in an hour or so and despite the number of times I perform or hear this song, “Home” is a constant reminder of God’s faithfulness and love for me. He will never leave or abandon me.” As the song says, “I am an orphan in a restless world and you’re here, you’re here, right here... to take me home."
In 2013, Alyssa graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with a degree in music. While in college, Alyssa performed in three operas as well performed with the OBU Jazz Band. She was also a member of the top elite choir, Ouachita Singers, throughout her college career. In 2013, Alyssa was given the opportunity to tour and perform her original music in parts of Western Europe.
Alyssa is currently living in Denton, TX. She spent her first year and a half after college working at coffee shops and performing on her days off. In 2014 she began teaching voice and piano at Evia Music and soon after, in March 2015, she signed with Evia Music Record Label. In May of 2015, she took the risk of having music as a full time paid career and she is so thankful she did!
Alyssa is currently a member of Denton Radio and is also a chorus member in the original opera "Tapestry" by Marilyn Thompson. She hopes to pursue her masters in Vocal Pedagogy at TWU and plans on recording more of her original tunes within the next year!
