Passionately creative and creatively passionate, Alyssa Wright is a cellist, vocalist, songwriter, music educator, music writer, and occasional music rant-er. She is currently based in Orillia, Ontario.
Alyssa Wright combines the soul of jazz with the technical facility of her classical training, transcending the artificial confines of genre and constantly pushing boundaries both real and imagined. With a musical background that includes traditional, pop, gypsy, barbershop, Broadway musicals, ukulele choirs, klezmer, campfire sing-alongs, tango and good old rock ‘n’roll, she weaves these diverse elements together with lyrics of outstanding imagery to create a style that is all-encompassing, yet uniquely her own.
She is currently a member of folk-roots duo The Brights, and classical ensemble Amity Trio, and is Ontario folk music's "go-to-it" girl for cello studio and session work. She has played festivals and venues from Cape Breton to Vancouver Island, including Massey Hall, Hugh's Room, The Carleton, Harbourfront Centre and Molson Amphitheatre, and has appeared on well over fifty commercial recordings (she admits to having lost count some time ago).
When not performing, Alyssa is Artistic Director of the Orillia Folk Society, runs music publicity company Take Note! Promotion, is establishing The Katie Foundation, and is a founding faculty member of Mariposa U. She also teaches cello, voice, ensemble work and improvisation, and gives music and creativity workshops throughout Ontario.
