Among The Weeds

Biography

Among the Weeds can best be described as a mixture of ideas from the past with a modern approach to create a unique sound and style without being contrived. Take a generous helping of darkwave, a splash of industrial, some 80’s new wave and a hint of atmospheric rock and that is the recipe for the core sound of Among the Weeds.

Their heart and soul lies heavily in the use of all hardware synths and drum machines, a stand-out among the trend of electronic artists relying heavily on software. The other core identifiable element centers on vocals characteristic of the post-punk movement of the early 80’s, effectively carried by the band’s founder, Rose Z Vine.

Moose brings influence from his long time project, Alaska Highway, to life in the much darker realm of Among the Weeds. He also brings his creation: a 1 of a kind drum device, aptly named “the Drum Tree”; an item that garners the band a lot of notice.

Combined, the duo has well over 35 years of performance, something which is evident when they put on a show. They were a surprise highlight of 2009’s NW Dark Arts Festival, Conflux; where they gained many new followers.

They put forth a lot of dark romanticism, but they are not playing dress up. They have been involved in the alternative subculture for over 20 years; which lends to the artistry of the band’s appearance.

The August 2009 self-released debut CD, frailTINbeauty, airs worldwide from clubs and internet radio. It continues to sell through online mediums, stores & shows and was given a nod at the 2010 Portland Music Awards.

Summer 2011 saw the much anticipated release of the follow-up album 'Temple of the Machine' which sees guitar duties now covered by David Anderson, and features the club hit 'Skinny Bitch' which made the 'top 5' for the World Goth Day awards 2011.
