Amy Barnes

Amy was born in Nashville, TN and grew up in a musical & spiritually eclectic family. Her dad, Rev. Bill Barnes, also a Nashville native, is a guitar playin’ singin’ Methodist minister. He was a Civil Rights Activist in the 1960’s and is a life long servant and instigator of social justice. Her mom is an artist, teacher, & yogini, who sings and plays various instruments. Her brother and sister play and sing as well. Amy started violin at 10, picked up silver flute at 13, and now plays acoustic guitar and is learning harmonium & percussion. She has practiced yoga since she was a young girl and as of several years ago, stumbled upon a yoga that blends the creative & devotional aspects of her life; Bhakti Yoga. Amy has dedicated her spiritual life to this path, the yoga of love and devotion. Singing, leading, and sharing Kirtan is what she loves the most! Dave Stringer came to Nashville in 2000 and helped light the fire in her heart, then she met her teacher Jai Uttal in 2006, and has been studying with him ever since. She has made two pilgrimages to Mother India in the last few years, having just returned with so many blessings in March of 2010.
