AMY JO JOHNSON has been successfully working as an actress for over twenties years in the film and television industry, with roles such as Julie Emrick on the critically-acclaimed television series Felicity, and Jules Callaghan in the award-winning Canadian series Flashpoint. These experiences have given her the confidence to venture beyond acting and into the world of writing and directing. Her first screenplay, "Crazier Than You," won the 2012 Blacktie Screenplay Competition at the Long Island Film Festival, and placed 3rd in the 2013 Write Brothers Screenplay Competition at the Canada International Film Festival. Amy Jo's directorial debut, the short film BENT, was the winner of the Audience Choice Award at the 2013 Women in Film and Television Toronto Short Film Showcase, the Jury Award at the 2013 Toronto Independent Film Festival, among other official selections in film festivals across the US. Amy Jo has also personally received the Shelly Award for women filmmakers at the 2013 Long Island Film Festival. Lines, Amy Jo's second short film, is in post-production and will be hitting the festival circuit in 2014.
Amy Jo is also a musician, with three albums under her belt. Her latest project, Never Broken, will be a compilation of original tunes about the struggles we face in life, and persevering through them. Never Broken, as well as Amy Jo’s other albums, The Trans-American Treatment and Imperfect, are available on cdbaby.com and iTunes.
Amy Jo was born and raised in the USA, but after fifteen years of living in Los Angeles she craved a new adventure, and in 2005 moved her life to Canada where she fell in love, had a baby and landed the award-winning Canadian series Flashpoint. The love she has for her new home has inspired her to become a permanent resident, and she is now seeking Citizenship. Amy Jo creates from the heart and is driven to hopefully inspire and help influence people in a positive way. This, to her, is what art and life is all about.
