Following the success of his first solo recording “Safe and Sound” three years ago, Andrew Ruoti continues to please Hudson Valley audiences with his sophomore effort “December to July.”
Recorded with producer Quanah Hicks, Ruoti hits his mark with the songs “Find me in July” and “Extra Ordinary.” The songs are bright, upbeat in rhythm and contain some of Ruoti’s best lyrics to date.
Adding to the flavor are some carefully placed harmonies, where Ruoti overdubbed his voice to great effect. And, as always, there are those hooks that record labels and hit radio love so much. Such is the case in the song “Extra Ordinary,” where the lyric “shine your light on me – because you’re no ordinary girl” reverberates in the ears of listeners.
“I’m really happy with the way the songs turned out. The quality of the CD is sharp and very professional. It was a great experience to work with Quanah again. This was one of my best experiences in a studio by far,” Ruoti said in a recent interview. “I also think the songs are marketable which may open them up to a wider audience. These songs were written with the idea that people can find similarities between the lyrics and their own lives, so in that way I feel they are accessible. That’s always something I strive for when writing, to connect with the listener.”
Ruoti, who works as a full-time teacher, said the two-song tease is just a taste of future material to come. Though, for now, the recording has all the earmarks for a great show. He plans on performing the songs with his current band, Radio Pirates, at some upcoming performances this summer.
“This experience was really a lot of fun for me. I’m curious to know what people think of the music,” Ruoti said. “I’m also excited to see what they sound like when played live with a full band. I just love to be back making music again. It’s a haven I always return to.”
Ruoti’s album “December to July” releases August 6th and will be available through iTunes, Amazon.com, Napster, CDbaby.com and many more digital distribution sites.
