Biography

Jazz bassist and composer Anne Mette Iversen is one of the most talented composers on the jazz scene today. With her writings for various sized jazz groups, jazz group with string quartet, and her new project of chamber jazz art songs: The Poetry of Earth Collection; she has defined a personal voice that truly stands out as unique, creative and masterful. Rooted in jazz tradition and classical music but always seeking new ways of expressing herself; the music is written with a rare ability for making musical intricacies sound natural and straight forward. But beneath the surface are layers of textures and musical material which keeps the music new and fresh, and constantly challenges the musicians to be/perform at their very best.

Anne Mette Iversen Quartet has gained a reputation for consistently engaging live performances. Having performed together for 8 years they interact and respond intuitively to each other, which allows the music to live and breath in the moment. The press has been full of praise for this group, as they have performed live on US national public radio: WNYC’s Soundcheck, Danish National Public Radio, at esteemed venues on the US east coast and in Europe; incl. Dizzy’s Club at Lincoln Center, The Jazz Gallery and Smalls Jazzclub in NYC, An Die Musik in Baltimore, Twins in Washington DC, the major jazz festivals in Denmark and at major clubs in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany.

Anne Mette Iversen, a Danish bassist living in New York City since 1998, has four releases out as a leader, one a double album, and several tours in Europe and the US, incl. performances at esteemed European jazz festivals. She has worked extensively as sideman and performed with phenomenal musicians such as Ingrid Jensen, Sam Yahel, Terri Lyne Carrington, Tineke Postma, Ben Taylor, Nina Nastasia, and many others. She has curated and performed at important events for the Royal Danish Embassy in Washington DC and for The Danish Consulate General in NYC. Anne Mette holds a BFA degree in Jazz Performance from The New School, NYC, and is a former classical piano major at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Denmark. She is a current member of the musician’s organization Brooklyn Jazz Underground and co-owner of the artist-run label Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records.
