Since being raised in Peckham, South London whilst attending a prestigious private school, therefore fitting into 2 completely different societies simultaneously, Anton Murphy has always had something about him that not many could ever understand.
Born into a mixed Jamaican and Irish family, Anton Murphy’s musical tastes are as you could imagine “mixed”. The sounds of Reggae, Old Skool Garage and Irish Folk Music could all be heard coming from the Murphy household.
Growing up Anton Murphy was heavily influenced by 90’s RnB, UK Grime music and American Hip Hop, he would regularly tape his favourite songs off the radio and recite his own lyrics over them from the age of 14 but no one knew of his deep passion for music.
It was when Anton Murphy started rapping at school lunchtimes with others that he realised he had the natural wordplay and charisma to be under the limelight but still knew he had to obtain all of his academic qualifications to make his Mum proud. Even though Anton Murphy completed school, college and University he did not stop making music.
It was at University that Anton Murphy’s music started getting recognition when he accidently made the cult university hit “Why Did I Drink?” which lead to him being all over the front of campus newspapers and gigging at most university events across the UK. It was becoming clear that Anton Murphy was born to be a star!
With the help from his best friend, Anton Murphy went on to shoot his first ever music video “The Break Up” in 2010 which was picked up by Flava TV and play listed for over 3 months. Followed by the release of his first mixtape in 2011 entitled “The Right GNA” accompanied by a few net music videos for it, such as “Million” which was filmed in Monaco.
With such a unique life story, packed full of talent and star quality, Anton Murphy was given the opportunity mid-way through 2011 to be a housemate in the UK Big Brother house. On the 11th September 2011, Anton Murphy walked into the UK Big Brother house as a “Musician from Croydon” and was evicted in week 6 out of a possible 9, he even had the opportunity to perform his song “Winner” off of his mixtape “The Right GNA” to over 4 million avid viewers!
As you can imagine, Anton Murphy’s fan base increased dramatically after he came off of one of the biggest TV shows in the world. He has since left his music group GNA after releasing their 2nd mixtape “Southern Lights” and dropping their buzz track live on Radio 1xtra featuring Daniel De Bourg entitled “Inhibitions”.
