Apryl Electra

Biography

Burbank, CA-born singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Apryl Electra grew up in Minneapolis, MN. Heavily influenced by late-70s soft rock along with early-80s new wave and pop, she began writing music at age 6. Her influences grew throughout the 90s when her dream was to become a Fly Girl on the show In Living Color. When the show ended in 1994 she threw herself into a life of music. She became obsessed with early and mid-90s alternative acts such as Blur, Lush, The Sundays, Nirvana, Bjork, Aimee Mann, Elastica, Hole, Massive Attack, Liz Phair, and Radiohead.

Apryl Electra attended the Perpich Center for Arts Education as a way of escaping the suburban community that she felt restricted her creativity. Post-graduation she fled to Chicago where she painted and played bass guitar in an unknown group. Electra returned to Minneapolis in 2000 to begin recording a collection of songs that she began writing in her teens.

Artcele Records was founded in 2005 by Apryl Electra to release her first full-length album, From The Padded Cell Of Suburbia. Between 2008 and 2010, Electra fronted the band Pine Deluxe in which she sang, played organ and cowrote songs. Artcele released Electra’s second full-length album, The Migration, at the end of September, 2010. Apryl Electra returned to Los Angeles in October, 2010.
