Aquitaine

In the spring of 2011, a group of seasoned St. Louis music scene stalwarts started “Supermoon” – selecting that name because of a recent spate of appearances of “super moons” … the occasional lunar phenomenon when the moon looks really big and imposing due to its orbital position. Or because of witchcraft. We’re actually not sure why it does that…. but it seemed fitting at the time. So much so,... that we soon realized that a slew of other bands across the country and across Facebook came up with the same name.

Wanting to make music and not make litigation, we tweaked our band’s name a bit and became “Super Maroon.” But that name drew too many comparisons to another dark-red named famous band, so we just started anew with Aquitaine.

But enough about our name –and back to why we started this band in the first place. We set out after inquiring “what would happen if Ian Curtis shared a prison cell with Mick Jones?” “What happens when you cross-pollinate The Jam with The Kinks?” “And what if Echo and the Bunny men would have been born in a city on the Mississippi rather than in a city on the Mersey?” We pondered those questions, and wrote out the answers in the form of songs. We soon started playing those songs very loudly in clubs in the St. Louis area, immediately attracting a limited but loyal following.

This EP, “American Pulverizer: Part 1” is the first batch of songs that we’ve recorded at Sawhorse Studios and had friend and Grammy-winning producer Greg Thompson handle the mixing in NYC. We hope to record and release “Part 2” by the holidays. Wouldn’t that be a treat!
