Babelshack

Biography

Babelshack is a band that was formed by Barnaby Hazen in 2003. As the frontman and chief songwriter, Barnaby has attracted great talent to his act throughout the years, including Nick Petree (now of Beirut), and Dylan Blanchard (Apple Miner Colony). The 2005 EP and full length release “Return of the Bottom Feeder” were both well reviewed, yet only hinted at what would become their mesmerizing live sound. Barnaby has switched from lead vocals, to guitar and vocals, to bass and vocals depending on the needs of the lineup throughout his many years performing.

With Babelshack's new rhythm section, consisting of drummer Troy Whitford and bassist Ari Newkirk, the band has developed a musical experience mixing inescapable grooves appealing to jam band oriented audiences, and Hazen's visceral songwriting capturing the ears of indie and punk music fans as well.

They play regularly in Santa Fe and in their hometown, Taos. Coming shows include the Seco Pearl and the music festival, Kannaroo. They will tour to support their upcoming live EP, "Alive in Jack's Basement," starting this August of 2009 following its release.
