BACKLASH was formed in Topeka Kansas in 1993. The only original member of that band, Shawn Ames (guitar/vocals) still plays in the band today. The current line-up features Brian McGuire (guitar/vocals), Ron Prothe (drums/vocals), and Chris Nicklay (bass).
The band has released four cd's - "Dressed For Success" (2003), No Quarter No Mercy" (2004), "Tattooed Nation" (2006), and "Backlash" (2009). The current release is the first in which the band has used digital download to help promote and sell the record.
Imagine mixing sonic ingredients from Alice Cooper, Marillion, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and The Who and that's what you'll end up with for the Backlash sound - moments of pure rock swagger and melodic atmosphere combined into song and writing.
The band has opened for such major acts as Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, White Lion, Doro Pesch, Eddie Money, and Stephen Piercy of Ratt.
Not only does Backlash write, record, and perform their own catalog of music, but they are also known in the Midwest as a rocking ocver band, mainly late 60's/early 70's music.
In 2008 the band performed Pink Floyd's "The Wall" in it's entirety from first song to last, including construction of the wall between the band and the audience, animation shown on the wall, lasers, fog, oodles of lights, and even the incidental music was recorded by the band, all of it performed live.
In May 2009 the band released what they believe to be their finest and purest rock cd to date. The cd took over two years to finish, mainly due to Backlash bassist Danny Tallent being involved in a car accident that left him unable to recover motion on the left side of his body and the crash also claimed the life of his wife Ashley, in which the album is dedicated to. The band had already finished half of the recordings by the time the accident took place so it was decided to take time off of the road in early 2009 and finish the project. While the album is full of pure rock and atmosphere, it unexpectedly follows a theme, of being caught between the light and the dark, between heaven and hell, between right and wrong, between life and death.
Take a chance and get this cd, you won't be disappointed...
