Bark Hide and Horn is a bombastic three-man folk-rock orchestra hailing from Portland, Oregon. With their dynamic live shows and lush recordings, they are shimmying out on a distinctive limb of the New Weird American family tree. The band is comprised of multi-instrumentalists Andy Furgeson, Peter Valois, and Dusty Dybvig. Furgeson brings the folk with his finger-picked guitar, banjo, fiddle, a voice betraying his Texas roots, and lyrics and structures anchored in old American music. Valois brings the post-rock with bass, vibraphone, and synth, providing unpredictable counter-melodies to Furgeson's traditional approach. Valois' finesse as a producer adds an experimental edge to the band's recordings. Dybvig brings the beats. His powerful drumming propels the band's rhythmic energy, while his electric piano work conjures a '60s psych buzz. With so many instrumental options, the band leaps between genres, tracing a singular path from backwoods to breakbeats to bitstreams.
