Barry Kay is a singer/songwriter/musician from North Alabama with a 30-year history of playing at churches, coffee houses, restaurants, weddings, camps, retreats, and other stuff like that. He studied classical guitar at Birmingham-Southern College in the 1980's and also plays bass, keyboards, percussion, hammer dulcimer, recorder, harmonica, lap steel, and a few other things.
Barry has visited Panama, Honduras, Mexico, Japan, Canada, the Appalachians, and (most frequently, like 2 or 3 times a year) New York City. These trips have somehow influenced his music, along with the artists he listened to growing up: Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Bob Bennett, Jim Croce, Keith Green, Kansas, Scott Joplin, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Glad, etc. His recordings are all originals, and reflect whatever stage of faith-journey & growth he was going through at the time. As a church music director, he is often making arrangements of songs for worship, and some of these have been used that way. His website: www.beyondthesong.net, tells more about his life & work.
