Base second time he ever put his fingers on a string instrument was on a spanish guitar at the age of 13 which his brother lent from a school mate. His first song he played on that guitar was “Fragile” from Sting and from there on it all took off. A few years later his brother and some of his school mates formed a school band. Base went every Friday after school to his school and just watched how they played music.

He was then asked to play percussion and also did some backing vocals. At home Base experienced more and more on the spanish guitar. He tried to figure out how to play chords by using a guitar chordbook. His sister's boyfriend was singing in a band at the time and he knew he had a bass guitar at home and a P.A. system so he ask him if he would lend out his bass guitar and P.A. system. It was a precision bass look a like. After he increased his skills on bass, Base went from playing percussion to bass guitar in the school band. They played lot's of covers such as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Hendrix, Dire Straits. Baseheadz really got into playing the bass after listening to jazzrock and fusion on tapes which his brother received from his school mates and cd's from the keyboard player who brought them along by every visit at his home. Base started his own CD collection with buying Level 42' A Physical Presence . He also discovered more bass players which were a big influence: Stanley Clarke, Les Claypool, Jaco Pastorius to name a few. His progression from playing bass guitar toward composing/producing his unique sound on his debut CD was by listening to music from the nineties in which hiphop/jazzdance/acid jazz/triphop took off and flew around the world. Even MTV started to broadcast videoclips of Omar, Brand New Heavies, Jhelisa, Public Enemy, NWA, Ice Cube, Courtney Pine, Galliano, Massive Attack, Portishead.

We go back to february 1997...
His former band Agony of the first Child went for a weekendtrip to England to record a demo. On sundaynight as they waited on the airport for their plane to go home, one of the bandmembers had reached out a cassette to Base. It's was DJ Shadow's Endtroducing as he was standing for a big window, with outside pouring rain: a true revelation to Baseheadz...Base gives new flavor to music styles such as Hip hop, Funk, Broken beats, Drum n Bass, Nujazz with the help of his bass guitar.
