"The Time is Magic", is the second album by Bats Brew.
This album rocks hard, but has some twists and turns that gives a nod to progressive rock.
Add in some real solid swinging grooves, acoustic guitars and 3 part harmony, and it ends up being all over the map.
It's one of those types of albums that are designed to listen to from beginning to end. It takes you on a mental trip, and it really flows.
The idea of Time being Magic, is really key here.. so much of the lyric content delves into moments of time that have a special meaning.
And finding the right person to sing that first song, the title track, was really tough!! LOL
BatsBrew is Rob Gilliland-- who toured for years, and developed a strong identity on guitar and vocals.
He writes all the material, and arranges it....
sings and plays all the instruments, and does additional programming.
Other guest artists on this effort:
"Speak To Me": Chrispy McVey gave a unique treatment to the backing tracks, using loops created in Nuendo to create the odd sound effects and grooving bass line;
Brent Dacus is featured on drums on the song "Allan's Resolve". A wonderful live drum performance, super in-the-pocket playing.
All of the recording, mixing is done by Rob Gilliland.
Mastering done by 'frantic Franklin' at Gonzo's Garage Records.
