Ben began his professional music career during his teen years in Baltimore, Maryland, paying his way through art school as lead guitarist in several well-known folk, rock, blues and jazz ensembles during the mid to late 1960s. He went on to compose music for many live theatre, film, and multimedia projects.
Ben has won awards for his original scores for theatre productions with the legendary Provincetown Theatre Company (founded by Eugene O'Neil and "Jig" Cook in 1916) which include the acclaimed ACTE Drama award in 1991.
Ben's compositions in the electronic and ambient music genre have been recorded and released on British, American, and Australian labels including Lyrebird Media, Tarheel Publishing, CMC Records, Generations Unlimited, Poison Plant Records, and Electronical Dreams.
Ben has also been a music journalist for over thirty years and was a public radio presenter in the U.S. (PBS Cape Cod) for ten years.
His book, Electronic Music Pioneers (2002), Pro Music Press / Thompson Publishing, distributed by Hal Leonard Corp., is based on a 2-part radio series funded by the Massachusetts Council for the Arts and Humanities.
Ben is also the editor/publisher of the online music magazine, Alternate Music Press, - one of the first eclectic music publications on the Internet which hosted it's first issue in May, 2007.
Since 1997, Ben and his partner Mairéid Sullivan have blended their decades of experience and musical styles into a hybrid of soaring traditional slow airs, contemporary tone poems, performance art, and mesmerizing dance rhythms. Their hypnotic soundtracks form a cocoon of comforting and energizing emotions and imagery.
