"The Ben Powell Trio is a newly formed group consisting of longtime members of the Southern California music scene. Ben Powell as spent the last decade performing one man band style shows within the U.S. and abroad featuring his National Reso-Phonic guitars, with influences from the Mississippi Delta to the early Jazz and Ragtime sounds of the the 1920's and 1930's.
Now playing all orginal music with Troy Sandow on Upright Bass (of James Harman Band, Nathan James Trio and The Freemonts) & Evan Caleb-Yearsley on Drums (of Candye Kane, Years Around the Sun, Yovee, & Shock and Awe) the Ben Powell Trio is adding uplifting, relevant content to the brew that is American Roots music."
Ben Powell's new record "New World Blues" is done and the MP3 version is now available for download!
Currently Ben Powell makes his way through this world like a one man band of years past, but with a fresh, new, vibrant sound. Ben has created a truley unique sound playing his resonator guitars, stomping on a homemade winebox footboard, playing rack-harmonica, and singing his old style blues and his original tunes about anything from world politics, to economics, to any of the issues of the day. Ben's show's are high energy, uplifting and should not be missed!
Ben Powell has made north county San Diego his home since 1991. Ben began performing as a solo act in 1998. Powell now often works with his trio playing straight juke joint dance blues, but for the last decade Ben has been making a name for himself as a riveting live solo performer as well as a slide guitar virtuoso. Well versed in the pre war country blues genre, Powell now spends his time composing original material cause "there's alot of things to work on, as Americans...as humans".
Ben is about to begin recording his 6th CD, this time with the Ben Powell Trio featuring all original songs as a follow up to his "New World Blues" (just released), two volume set of country blues classics "Not Home Yet" vol.1 & 2. and 2 other CD's that you can purchase on his website.
Gaining experience and popularity Ben Powell continues to venture further away from his southland home to play his music for people throughout the U.S. and Europe.
