Born and raised in Massachusetts, Willmott was classically trained at the prestigious Ithaca College School of Music in New York. While he was there, he honed his pop-rock sound, which is most commonly compared to that of Ben Folds, Billy Joel, and James Taylor, while playing at clubs and coffeehouses in the Finger Lakes region.
