Big John Bates

Biography

BANGTOWN is the most staggering slab of vinyl Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz have dropped to date. Their Punk/Blues sound mashes Punk, Blues & Rock’n’Roll; infusing Bangtown with “13 deadly tracks fueled by whiskey, murder & motorcycles”. They’ve been re-defining Canadian culture since 2001 and in 2009 alone they played 130 dates in 9 countries. With a live show sonically powered by Gretsch-endorsed guitarist/vocalist Big John Bates, Brandy Battery’s upright, JT Brander on drums & featuring Little Miss Risk’s Gaslight Revolutionaries Burlesque, every night is a high-octane circus.

Their fourth album “Bangtown” was released in Europe in May 2009 accompanied by a live video feature on MySpace with great reviews from over 20 top EU magazines. Produced by Todd Simko (Pure, Xavier Rudd) and showcasing 13 stories of the midnight city the theme is reflected in I, Braineater’s cover art while the band is joined by some great Vancouver musicians including Jimmy Roy (Ray Condo) & Jen Chycoski .
