What do you get when you mix the right ingredients in mixing a cake? A great cake! BJ The Voice as he is affectionately called by his peers and fans has all and more of the best ingredients any artist could have. This South Carolina born singer, rapper writer and producer started his love for music growing up listening to his grand daddy acclaimed blues singer Nappy Brown who wrote “The Nighttime Is The Right Time” for Ray Charles. In his early years he clearly defined then what “Real Music” sounded like and felt like.
As he began to immerse himself in other great artists such as Michael Jackson and Prince he also began to flourish as a true stage performer and moved to Atlanta at a mere eighteen years, realizing the faster pace he was encouraged to write songs that drew upon his personal experiences with thought provoking lyrics that added to his R&B ,pop, and hip hop genres. BJ joined the R&B group “Untitled” signed with Def Jam/DTP, they later changed their name to “Vacancy” but the group broke up shortly after before releasing the project that showcased their newest member.
Performing east to west coast and everything in between gave BJ the desire to stay in touch with the people and what the public liked. This eventually landed him several music licensing placements, as well as a showcased instagram that he was featured in that eventually went to #2 in a contest for a band that without that video wouldn’t have even placed. His instincts to follow his gut also led him to write for artists like Chris Brown, and rapper Gorilla Zoe, Tiger with Cash Money and Dj Holiday as well as a single with Travis Porter. Even with all these early accolades BJ still maintains a sense of drive that is motivated by providing for his daughter and waking up everyday to follow his mission statement to make and continue to make “Real Music”
