Blow-Up Bio
Making their debut as teenagers in the final days of ’77 at the infamous Masque, Blow-Up (“the best garage band in L.A.” – Mikal Gilmore) became a fixture on the Hollywood scene, first recording for legendary indie Bomp! and later providing music for motion pictures Mad Magazine presents ‘Up the Academy’ and Flashback, starring Kiefer Sutherland and Dennis Hopper. Their 1984 album Easy Knowledge enjoyed heavy college radio airplay and appeared on year-end best-of lists from critics such as Robert Christgau and Mikal Gilmore. Blow-Up was nominated “Best Underground Band” at the 1987 L.A. Weekly awards alongside Jane’s Addiction and Social Distortion. Two CD compilations of their work have been released: Groovy Dynamite Heavy Wow (1981-88) and Teenage News (1976-90).
