Bob Gibson

In 1955 a charismatic young banjo player named Bob Gibson began taking unheard of liberties with"folk music". He found an ecstatically enthusiastic audience for his high energy performances. By taking folk music from the province of collectors and making it appealing to a general audience, Bob Gibson invented folk music. Many of the performers who came out of the folk revival of the '50s and 60's credit Gibson with being one of their major influences. Gibson's musical legacy continues through an extensive list of artists who were (and still are) influenced and inspired by his music including Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Shel Silverstein, Tom Paxton, Anne Hills, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and many, many more.
