Bossalingo

Biography

The music of Bossalingo is informed by Brazilian, Latin, Indian, and African modes with roots in American folk, rock and blues. Michael Joseph Harris, composer and guitarist for the group, was fortunate to find like-minded players in DC clubs at the bands inception in 1998; musicians who were thirsty for blending all of these elements in a live setting. The word Jazz is often misunderstood in the modern context, but it does apply here to describe that aspect of Harris' highly interactive and improvisational style. Most of the players in Bossalingo have a background in Jazz, but many come from roots as varied as folk, salsa, samba, and church gospel. Michael found a natural melding of all of these influences through these many musicians who all continuously influenced the Bossalingo sound through the years. It is also what allows Bossalngo to thrive wherever it is planted. From DJ parties in Brooklyn to big festival stages in the Virginia countryside to intimate Jazz listening clubs; Bossalingo morphs into what the occasion demands.
