Australian born, of Celtic ancestry, Branan Dubh has sustained a lifetime fascination for Eastern music and culture. A musician for 25 years, his artistic path has been lit by sonic encounters with the sacred and powered by a sense that music can change the world.
At the turn of the millennium, he found the courage to dedicate himself to the voice as the most naked, the essential of instruments. His passion led him to India where he was fortunate enough to receive intensive training from the Gundecha Brothers in the venerable vocal genre of dhrupad.
Branan’s singing communicates the emotional depth of the raga tradition while opening the gateway between music and meditation. He creates and performs in traditional and fusion contexts, privileging the spontaneous and improvised dimension of the art.
