Pushing the boundaries and safety net of today's genre of hard rock and metal, Brent Sutton takes a no holds barred approach with the release of his debut solo EP, 'Inception'. The style and attitude of the record is melodically dark, ebullient, moving and almost cinematic, with lustrously blazing guitars, passionate vocals and an imagery-designed structure that will take you on a ride!
Brent Sutton (born May 26, 1987) is an American musician and multi-instrumentalist from Arizona. The youngest of 6 children, Brent was born and raised in the small town of Williams, Arizona to parents Bill and Linda. He was raised in a strong Christian background in the same home on Hancock Ave. his whole young life. Brent picked up the drums at age 9 and continued to play throughout his early teenage years in his church and as drumline captain in the school marching band. It was not until age 13 that he picked up the instrument that would mold his future.
After watching a video from American heavy-metal band, Pantera, Brent was instantly inspired by Pantera guitarist, Dimebag Darrell and saved up enough money from his paper route to get his first guitar from a small music shop in Williams. He started practicing seriously right away up to 6-10 hours a day, attacking songs from bands like Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, MXPX and Creed.
Years later, after graduating from High School and moving to Phoenix, Brent became a well-known guitarist, attracting the interest in a number of bands. He joined what would become Hollywood Heartthrob in 2008, which quickly rose to become one of Arizona’s top bands. The band’s lone CD, The Takeover (Juiced Records), launched the band into a number of nationwide tours, where their unique image, style and catchy guitar leads, attracted a large following of fans. After finishing a fall tour in 2010, the band took a short break to start writing for their next record. Conflicted with feelings of personel and musical differences between the band and himself, Brent was faced with a difficult crossroads to make a difficult decision.
In 2011, Brent reported to Hollywood Heartthrob and fans his departure from the group and would take a year break from everything he knew to go back to his hometown to focus entirely on his playing and craft his soon to be first released solo EP, Inception. It was time for Brent not only to take some time off and recoup, but to plan his next move to truly show the world what he is made of.
The solo EP was released a year later on the night of October 31st, featuring musicians that Sutton handpicked to embellish the record; including Rafe Sweet (Bionic Jive), Brandon Kruszeniak (ColdFusion), Danny Saba, child vocalist Emelia Boatner and others. After receiving the EP's first review 1 month after it's release, Music Emissions reviewer branded Brent Sutton as "a potential heir apparent to (Steve) Vai's throne".
Brent Sutton's determination to break the mold of the traditional guitarist shines through in every note and every thing he is as an artist. "I don't know what direction my career will take from here, but having the opportunity to put my personal best music out without the 'rules' and 'boundaries' that can make it difficult to be artistic today is a dream come true. As far as I'm concerned, my life has just begun.” - Brent Sutton.
