Brian Michael Murphy
 

Biography

Brian Michael Murphy is a poet, musician, and educator. He has taught at Capital University, The Ohio State University, and The Charles School at Ohio Dominican University. He performs regularly and gives workshops on poetry, American history/identity, and hip hop culture for colleges, community organizations, prisons, and elementary and high schools. He has released three albums: Black Fire, Manifest Destiny, and lovelovehatehatemixtape. His honors include the Ohio Arts Council's William Redding Poetry Prize, 1st Place in Poetry at the Columbus Arts Festival, and the Lloyd O. Brown Award from the Ohio Board of Regents. His work has been published most recently in Birmingham Poetry Review and the anthology Cap City Poets (Pudding House Press). He holds a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature from Capital University, and a Master's Degree in Comparative Studies from The Ohio State University, where he is a doctoral student. Currently, he is at work on his fourth project--The News--with pianist/producer Jeremy Luke.
