Bull Halsey

Biography

Bull Halsey formed in 2001 by Garth (3 speed, American Mars), Wally (Wally and the Tallboys) and Dave (Chrome Mali) as an excuse to get together and play old blues, jazz, and bluegrass standards. Their rock band roots proved difficult to suppress, however, and tunes from giants like Howlin’ Wolf, Fats Waller, Louis Jordon, Johnny Cash, and Junior Watson ended up being re-interpreted into higher gain, tube driven versions of their former selves.

But, a band is just a project until it starts writing its’ own tunes and booking shows.
Bull Halsey started working on their live show with opening slots at places like the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, the Lager House in Detroit and playing outdoor festivals around the Midwest. Headlining gigs followed as well as a growing number of original tunes which they recorded and released on their debut EP ‘The Mighty Fists of Joe Frazier” in 2007.

Shortly after that they returned to the studio and started tracking for their next full length release, “Hot Dry Work” which they recorded with David Feeny at the Tempermill in Ferndale. Hot Dry Work is released in June of 2009.
