Button Willow Locomotive

Alex Heflin and Amanda Carson are both singer/songwriters who study at the University of California, Irvine. Over their first two years at the school, they played around the campus independently, and eventually started playing shows together. In 2010, they began arranging songs together, until ultimately, they decided to put a name to their work: Button Willow Locomotive.

Alex Heflin is a singer/songwriter, guitarist, and saxophonist, originally from La Crescenta, California. Throughout high school he played in and wrote songs for several punk rock groups. Playing in school jazz groups as well as growing up listening to folk music eventually caused him to move into the singer/songwriter scene.

Amanda Carson is a singer/songwriter originally from the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. She started playing music with an indie/folk/pop band, Knife Jockeys in the Valley but has been exposed to various genres of music from show tunes to classic rock from a very early age. It was during her first year at University of California, Irvine that she truly started developing her songwriting. She likes floral print and french fries.

Their musical collaboration combines their eclectic roots, producing a folksy, lyrically driven sound. The pair has been compared to the Swell Season and She & Him, and some of their biggest influences are Gregory Alan Isakov and Brandi Carlile. Currently, the group is actively playing shows in Southern California, as well as working on their first EP.
