Biography

Candece Tarpley is of Blackfoot and Cherokee decent and is a spoken word poet, storyteller, playwright, actress and a World Champion Powwow Dancer. Some of her appearances include The Boulder Public Library in Boulder, Colorado, The Pequot Museum in Connecticut, Williams College in Massachusetts, Middlebury College in Vermont and in New York The Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of Natural History, The Ukrainian Institute, WBAI-FM Radio shows, The American Indian Community House, The Cornelia Street Cafe, The Nuyorican Cafe and others. She has been published in Heyoka Magazine, The World's Best Love Poems, American Poetry Anthology, Eternal Portraits, The Talking Stick, The Voice of Mother Earth and Seditious Delicious. Her play "Heading for the Powwow" was a part of the Third Annual Festival of Established and Emerging Women Playwrights and her play "Storm Street" was performed for Suicide Prevention for Lakota Teenagers. She has two book of poetry "Poems of a Dancing Lady" and "High Flying Haiku", two spoken word CD's " Birth At Last" and "In the Quiet Volcano of Myself" and several plays and children's stories.
