Candytree

candytree create music that endeavours to reach out universally to their audience through an eclectic embrace of styles; a marriage of urbane, spiritual, and emotional ‘chic’; through the employment of ‘hooks’ and lyrical substance. We do not confine ourselves to any one particular style but are able to incorporate many elements into a rounded identifiable ‘sound’. A five piece band from East London, UK, present a collision of urbane ‘chic’ and spiritual ‘graffiti’ using pop, rock and electronica to create euphoric sound-scapes. ‘Lynchian’ panoramas meet ethereal waterfalls, set in an urban backdrop.

We are purveyors of M.I.Y Space music (Make It Yourself) - (© Anthony Holgate 2010) - and can best be described as ‘pop-noir’. Imagine David Lynch and Portishead have been invited along to a pool party by the Pixies – skinnydipping optional. (© copyright 2011 Anthony Holgate - [for and on behalf of 'candytree'])

Who we are:

This line up formed in February 2008, comprising:

Vince Cullen (drums, keyboards, songwriting and production)
Anthony Holgate (guitars and songwriting)
Jehanne Saaidah (vocals and songwriting)
Matt Hill (guitars and songwriting)
Carl Hansen (bass guitar)

candytree are a mosaic of influences; from the whitesands to the tenements - that's where it started, and now, to here, in noir-pop streams. We bring you beauty and filth, melodic graffiti and a cathode rain in which to immerse yourself. (Pause. Rewind. Play. Oscillate. Pause. Rewind. Play, Oscillate). Alright; cry, laugh, kiss, dance and be beautiful (and do it over..) then. Verbena drenched choruses in waterfalls and guitars splitting velcro. Where karma and the karma crash entwine is where you will hear us. We are, and continue to support, stardust valentines. Down sonic cocktails together. (after three....Pause. Refill. Play. Intoxicate. Pause. Refill. Play. Inebriate).

Valentines day 2008 saw Jehanne join us; a wonderful singer with great presence of voice and vibe. The album, 'The Cathode Rain' is was released digitally in December 2011 and is the first complete album with, and introduces, Jehanne.

Our latest work with Jehanne can now be viewed on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp0nLllK-Nc
'Power Failure' - a single - is also available to buy as a download on iTunes, Amazon and on CDBaby of course. This has also been broadcast by BBC Essex Introducing (UK) on April 16th 2010.
