Cantor David Propis

Hazzan David Propis, born in Canada, learned the cantorial art at the feet of his father, Hazzan Dov Propis, and studied voice with Metropolitan Opera diva, Elena Nikolaidi. While serving Congregation Beth Yeshurun in Houston, Texas, the largest Conservative congregation in the United States, he has built an international concert career. Blending popular and cantorial music seamlessly he has shared the stage with numerous luminaries including Dave Brubeck, Julie Budd, Jackie Mason and Yaakov Smirnoff, appearing frequently in the major halls of the U.S., Europe and Israel. David continuously entertains for major Jewish organizations as well as being in constant demand by his beloved Houston Astros and Rockets for his powerful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. David not only produces the Spirit series of CD’s for the Cantors Assembly and United Synagogue, distributed to millions of homes throughout North America, but has himself recorded a number of albums. His latest, Together as One, a duet CD with Hazzan Alisa Pomerantz-Boro, joins Visions of Shabbat and Visions in Prayer, both composed and arranged by Meir Finkelstein, as well as The Three Jewish Tenors and Inspirations—Memories of Home. Among his many honors, David has just been elected president of the Cantors Assembly, the largest body of cantors in the world.
