Captain Ambivalent is a nerd rock singer-songwriter with a sparkly gold accordion, performing solo in the proud tradition of They Might Be Giants, Weird Al Yankovic, Barenaked Ladies, and Jonathan Coulton, half of which are actually duos.
With this discrepancy in mind, the Captain (aka Dan Biemer) enlisted long-time collaborator Mark Frey of the 1990s Buffalo band "Riley" to join him in the virtual studio, creating the lively accordion, drum, and tuba based sound they call "oom-punk."
The resulting album, "Fear The Accordion," is a whimsical journey through romantic, commercial, corporate, and pop cultural ambivalence, inspired by real life conversations, dreams, and email exchanges, appealing to fans ages 4 to 74.
Captain Ambivalent has been performing in and around Front Porch Music in Valparaiso, Indiana since 2005. With the release of his album he has begun touring open mics in New York, Louisville, and Chicago to build support for larger shows.
