Biography

Singer Carolyn Malachi makes pop, soul, and jazz-influenced R&B with a poetic, avant-garde bent. A native of Washington, D.C., Malachi is great-granddaughter of jazz pianist John Malachi and grew up listening to a wide variety of music. She eventually relocated to Baltimore, where she performed regularly on the singer/songwriter club circuit. She released her debut solo album, Revenge of the Smart Chicks II: Ambitious Gods, in 2009. The EP Lions, Fires & Squares followed in 2010. That same year, the song "Orion" from Lions, Fires & Squares was nominated for a Grammy Award. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
