Billy Carvelli (born July 16, 1976), better known as simply 'Carvelli', is an Italian-Canadian producer, MC and entrepreneur who fuses his primary passion, hip hop, and his Italian heritage. The artist's music integrates strummed mandolin, violin, and euro-dance style synths with hip hop beats to his own rhymes. Carvelli has released two EPs, each with corresponding videos for the title tracks “Hooah” and “The Movement.”
His family values are exemplified by his proudly displayed tattoo of his Italian grandmother. She came to Canada by boat with her children and worked various low-paying jobs to ensure her children would have a good life. Carvelli's father and godfather were also singers and his early exposure to 'old' Italian music left a lasting impression. As he grew up, he often questioned why Italian music wasn't being incorporated into contemporary music.
Carvelli cites Sinatra, Pavarotti, and Kanye West as inspirations. He resides in Canada.
Carvelli is a businessman and entrepreneur working in the car industry. Carvelli Records, his independent record label formed in 2000, is designed to represent Italian hiphop, r ‘n b, pop, and traditional music artists. He has a special interest in animal welfare and has supported the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter.
