Charles Ray Martin of The Righteous Kind & dblWiDE
The Righteous Kind
Award-winning singer/songwriter Charles Ray Martin leads an all-star cast of rock and blues musicians in a rock-n-roll revival called The Righteous Kind. A vocally oriented rock band, the Righteous Kind have been compared to the Beatles, Cream, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys with some Jimi Hendrix Experience and Spirit thrown into the mix as well. Charles Ray acknowledges profound inspiration from legendary songwriters such as Chuck Berry, John Lennon, Joni Mitchell, Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Carol King, and Elvis Costello. The band has broad stylistic range, from garage to alternative to classic to psychedelic to pop, and audience response is always fantastic.
“Featuring the one-of-a-kind Charles Ray Martin on guitar and vocals and one of Gainesville’s best rhythm sections, these guys bring back riff- infused rock 'n' roll.” Music Editor, Gainesville Sun, July 9, 2009

Influences Elvis (from 1954 to 1958 - pre-GI Elvis; before he was ruint by the Colonel), Johnny Horton, Dwight Yoakam, Rev Horton Heat, Johnny Paycheck, Hank Williams, Sr., Carl Perkins, Patsy Cline, Gene Vincent (and of course his Blue Caps), and last but not least the incomparable Bill Monroe.
Sounds Like Think Hank Williams Sr. in the back seat of a Cadillac just after new years 1953, or that first Sun recording session where Elvis met Bill Black and Scotty Moore in 1954, or Carl Perkins and his brothers setting up in an Arkansas honky tonk with sawdust on the floor, or Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys playing in Cincinnati for the first time and really lettin’ loose, or Gene Vincent crooning to some rockabilly kitten he knows he’s gonna score with after the show, or all those late 1950’s rockabilly wild men who got the beat from Elvis, recorded those ultra-revved up county tunes, but died in obscurity.
