Born to Igbo parents in the city of Lagos, Nigeria, Che_chE grew up surrounded by music. He first got his real exposure when he stumbled upon his father’s extensive tape recording collection of music at the young age of 7. Upon graduating high school, Che_chE spent two years at home soaking in the burgeoning Nigerian music scene with new acts such as Styl- Plus and Plantation Boyz on the forefront. However, music got placed on the backburner when he left for college in the United States to pursue a degree in engineering. Che_chE never forgot where his interests lay and took every chance to immerse himself in the world of music, even securing a DJ gig at a local bar to scratch his itch. Upon graduation, he worked for a few years while making constant visits to his family back home in Lagos where the music industry had exploded, now churning out world renowned artists with new artists popping up on every street corner.
Che_chE felt that there was a need for something new, something fresh and different in the Nigerian music scene. In 2012, he made contact with two individuals to realize his vision: Prince David, a smooth Jazz musician that toured with King Sunny Ade in the early 80’ s and 90’s and a young innovative producer by the name of WaffiBoy, who had worked previously with such acts as Omo Akin, D.I.S.Guise, and Wande Coal. Together with these talented individuals, Che_chE formed his unique blend of hip hop, high life, dance, house and R&B, continuously fusing the old with the new. Welcome to the multifaceted world of Che_chE.
