Christian Beck is from Freedom, Pennsylvania, a small town of about 1,500 people clinging to life on the steep hillsides overlooking the Ohio River northwest of Pittsburgh.
The legendary collapse of the steel industry wasn’t kind to Freedom, but the railroad has continued by. And that’s where four generations before him scratched out their living.
Christian grew up the only son of a devoted single mom and with the love and support of a lot of great family and friends.
The boy from Freedom found his own route to freedom, through singing. He began when he was in diapers in his mom’s two-bedroom mobile home in the country. His first microphone was her hairbrush; his first audience, her bedroom mirror and the camcorder she trained on it.
His first recorded song? “From this Moment” by Shania Twain, whom he always told his mom she was prettier than. His cowboy boots helped his Underoos set the tone for the video.
While Christian's first love is country music, he has a passion for many different genres, including R&B, alternative, classic rock, and southern rock. His influences include Garth Brookes, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen.
Christian gets compared to Elvis a lot. Maybe because he’s got “that look,” and, honestly, “that hair,” but he’s definitely got that Elvis way of moving on stage.
His voice is compared to Gregg Allman, as well as Aldean and Seger, and he’ll take those comparisons. They’re extremely cool.
Christian's budding talent was recognized early by the music and drama teachers at the Freedom public schools. With their guidance, Christian discovered his love for the stage in grade school, performing in school plays and musical numbers before thousands of people over the years. He went on to win multiple regional awards for best performances in high school musicals.
Along the way, Christian studied and further developed his skills with professional coaching from several notable singing instructors including Joshua Jones at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School. In fact, Joshua was instrumental in helping Christian start to generate his own songs, co-writing the country ballad "You and I" with him when Christian was only 15 years old.
Christian is also the winner of numerous talent competitions and, in 2012, won the hotly contested Rocket to the Stars, the largest vocalist competition in Western Pennsylvania. Christian was selected as the winner by a panel of judges and text votes from the 40,000-person audience as well as countless live radio listeners. Christian's videos are a hit with thousands of viewers on Youtube and Facebook.
Christian’s heart bleeds Black and Gold (Pittsburgh people!) He’s a sports fanatic. That’s easy growing up in such an amazing sports area. Chicago Bears great Jimbo Covert, also from Freedom, played for legendary coach Mike Ditka, who’s from just across the Ohio River. Joe Namath and Tony Dorsett are from up the road.
Here’s the thing:
Christian can sing.
Christian can command a stage.
Christian is 6’1” and 170 pounds of country powerhouse.
He reminds us all why it’s such a good thing, living in Freedom.
