Christina Antipa was a classical oboist who studied and performed in symphonies along the California coast. Her first album of songwriting was entitled Goodbye Different Oceans, and was released in 2003, in Arcata, CA. The album was a scratchy collection of sleepy-sounding low-fi 4-track recordings, and was later picked up for distribution by french label Waterhouse Records.
Antipa relocated to Seattle, Washington in 2004, and there finished her second album, Everything Starts to Sing. This album was also a self-recorded, low-fidelity, experimental work, inspired by "unemployment, romantic disillusionment, rain, rain, and general malaise". Antipa's fans have referred to her music as "sad-core," but she hopes to produce more positive works in the future. Everything Starts To Sing was picked up for distribution by Bicycle Records in 2006.
Christina Antipa's third album, The Royal We, was self-recorded digitally, mixed by Frank Jake Fiolek III, and mastered at the Hangar in Sacramento, CA. A number of talented musical guests from the Pacific Northwest participated on the album (which was released in 2009) before Antipa departed back to her home state of California. The Royal We features classical, folk, country-western, and electronic styles.
"I remember letting a musician friend listen to some tapes I made back in 1999. He told me it was good, but that I should include razor blades inside the packaging, so that the listeners could kill themselves after listening. I guess sometimes I get inspired by my own depression, but I love singing and my songs always end up sounding really peaceful. Not peaceful like a funeral parlor, peaceful like a day at the beach."
